Nippers

7-13 Years old

Nippers, with the feeder group ‘limpets’ are the youngest section of our club, we catering for children turning 6 in the calendar year and up to 13 years where they progress on to our ‘Youth’ squad.

Our main aim is to have fun… whilst learning surf life saving skills. Starting at 6 years old (in the calendar year), you can join the limpet section ‘as long as you can swim 50 metres’. Then, when turning 8 in the calendar year they progress to join Nippers! At this point members are able to compete!

Winter training takes place at Ilfracombe swimming pool on Saturdays, at a time to be confirmed. In the summer we meet at our club hut at Woolacombe beach on Sunday mornings and usually on Tuesdays evenings for beach and sea training.

Nippers focus on sea safety while learning board skills, techniques of swimming in surf, along with many fun drills such as manakin and board rescue.
We try to make the sessions fun mixing play & games on the beach. This builds fitness but is primarily focused on FUN!

Nippers is the largest, and most vibrant section of our club, we have won many National titles in the past 15 years with many of the ‘Youth’ going on to compete for Team GB.

It is not compulsory, most of our nippers enjoy competing for Woolacombe team… We encourage all our families to become involved in helping in the sea or in other ways. It is not just a drop and run service! We are a family orientated club and rely completely on voluntary help to run Nippers
