Youth

At 13 nippers progress to the Youth section.  Many of the skills are the same, but boards are bigger and there is a larger range of pool events.  By the time young people reach this age, they are very confident and competent in the sea.

During winter Youth train at 8.30pm on Friday evenings at the North Devon Leisure Centre in Barnstaple. In the summer training is on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings. We welcome new members too, surf lifesaving is a very diverse sport so there’s something for everybody!

Many of the events in both the pool and in the sea rely on you being a good swimmer, we coach how to use that swimming to save lives

Lots of youth members enjoy competing in regional, National and sometimes international competitions. At the most recent World Championships (Rescue 2016) in Holland Woolacombe Youth achieved 12th place overall out of 83 teams from across the world!

Youth can also train to become Lifeguards and volunteer (or indeed gain paid work) on the North Devon beaches
