Kings Race 2023 – Report and Stunning Aerial Photography

After a long lay off from the original endurance format, the Woolacombe Kings Race Oceanman returned to Wooolacombe beach on the 8th of July 2023.

The race sees competitors undertake the following challenges

1.5 km run
3.5 km ski
750 metre run
750 metre swim
2 km board paddle
1.5 km run

Entries from Devon, Cornwall, Wales and Australia entered the race with plenty of participants from the clubs youth section.

Conditions were perfect although very challenging; light winds, a surging tide and a solid 4-5ft swell made getting out through the surf hard work and ultimately made the course longer than expected

First across the line for the men was Owen Pope (1h 19mins) from Newquay Surf Life saving Club, Skye Pirie from Woolacombe was the first female home.

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped with the organisation and running of the event, thanks to Parkin estates who financed the safety cover from the RNLI and CG Safety. Also thank you to DryRobe for the prizes.

See you all again next year.
